The memorial pays respects to 12 local lives tragically lost in the Black Saturday bushfires on February 7th 2009. The memorial provides the community, and in particular friends and family of lost ones a contemplative place to reflect.
Designed by Urban Initiatives, the curved coloured concrete wall borders the space and draws focus to the central plaque of names lost in the fires. The cenre wall and paving were constructed out of a very durable stone in Harcourt Granite. Two glass plaques top the granite wall; one tells the story of the tragedy of the day and the other a sentimental poem. A recycled timber seat is counter levered from the granite wall.
